We are currently experiencing the 4th mass coral bleaching event, and like countless other reefs worldwide, the corals of the Maldives are bearing the brunt of its impact. 🌊🐢 Coral bleaching occurs when ocean temperatures rise past a tolerable threshold, causing corals to expel the microscopic algae (zooxanthellae) that provide essential nutrients for their survival and give them their colour.
