Jumping up is one of the most common problem behaviours we hear about as dog trainers. It's almost guaranteed with most dogs as they quickly learn that all the fun stuff comes from our faces. We smile, talk and laugh at them which would usually get a result from them in turn, it's no wonder it happens. The best way of dealing with this is to look at what causes our dogs to get so excited in the first place and what we can do to manage the moment and build a more acceptable behaviour in its place
