It originates from the coracoid process of the scapula and inserts onto the medial surface of the humerus. The muscle is innervated by the musculocutaneous nerve (C5-C7) and primarily functions to move the arm towards the body (adduction) and to flex the shoulder joint, helping lift the arm forward.
