We used old horse troughs for annual flowers. My husband drilled drainage holes in the bottom. We lined the bottom with a layer of cardboard, branches, sticks, leaves, old egg cartons, and eggshells. (These help with organic materials and encourage Earth worms, etc.) Then a layer of compost and top layer of quality potting soil. We then planted our favorite annual flower varieties to attract hummingbirds, butterflies and honey bees. | A Farmgirl's Kitchen
