Hundreds of thousands of bees survived after being covered in volcanic ash on Spain’s Canary Islands. Six hives near the erupting La Palma volcano were buried under ash for weeks. After a 50-day wait for safety, rescuers uncovered the hives and were astonished to find that five out of the six bee houses had survived. 🐝 The bees, known as the Canary black bee, used propolis (bee glue) to seal themselves inside the hive, protecting against volcanic gases.
