Yue Cao is now working on a stealth startup. He co-founded Lightyear AI (光年之外 in Chinese), aiming to accelerate the process of making AGI beneficial for all of humanity. Before this entrepreneurial venture, he was a technical staff in Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence (BAAI), leading the multimodal and vision research center.

Yue Cao (Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree from the Institute for Communication Systems (ICS), University of Surrey, Guildford, U.K., in 2013. He is currently a Professor with the School of Cyber Science and Engineering, Wuhan University, China. His research interest focuses on intelligent transport systems.

Yue Cao is a tenured associate professor in Energy Systems at Oregon State University. Before joining OSU, he was a research scientist in the propulsions team at Amazon Prime Air in Seattle, WA.

Yue Cao’s research centers on utilizing AI techniques to facilitate the automation and intelligence of robotic systems, particularly manipulators. His primary research goal is to advance task-oriented programming systems for manipulators.
