Xing Yi Quan – The Explosive Internal Martial Art - Tai Chi Basics
Xing Yi Quan (形意拳 Hsing-I Chuan) or “Form-Intention Fist (Boxing)” is the oldest of the three primary internal Chinese martial arts. Its characteristically powerful, explosive, linear attacks originated from spear fighting and are taught in sequences based on the five elements.

Xing Yi Quan - Shen Wu
X ing Yi Quan (Hsing Yi Ch'uan) is the oldest of the orthodox, internal styles of Chinese martial art (predating the creation of both Taiji Quan and Ba Gua Zhang). Xing refers to form or shape and Yi commonly refers to the mind or intent. Quan [fist] denotes a method of unarmed combat.
Xingyiquan 形意拳 (Straight Line Boxing) — Wudang Dan Pai
Students will learn the various forms of Xingyiquan including the five element form and the twelve animal form as well as the connecting forms such as five element linked sequence. Students will also learn two-person fighting forms and sparring.

Xingyi Quan, as a derivative of Xinyi Quan (Dai Family 戴氏心意拳) and Xinyi Liuhe Quan 心意六合拳, represents the Form/Shape and Intention Boxing. The essence of Xingyi Quan is based on five phases/elements and twelve animals however it is the intention of these which is paramount.
