Jan 6, 2002 · Summer of ’01 my Counter Shaft on my ’99 XR400R failed / sheared during a dual sport ride. When it failed, because the engine was running, several other engine components were damaged, including the clutch basket, kick-start idler gear and pinion. Parts and labor were roughly $1,000 for this (split 50/50 cost-wise).
