Parashat Vayikra, VaYikra, Va-yikra, Wayyiqra, or Wayyiqro (וַיִּקְרָא ‎— Hebrew for "and He called," the first word in the parashah) is the 24th weekly Torah portion (פָּרָשָׁה ‎, parashah) in the annual Jewish cycle of Torah reading and the first in the Book of Leviticus. The parashah lays out the laws of sacrifices (קָרְבָּנוֹת ‎, korbanot).

Leviticus (“Vayikra”) is the third book of the Torah. It primarily delineates the details of sacrificial worship in the Mishkan (Tabernacle), a temporary and portable sanctuary built to serve God in the desert.

The model of sacrifices, of offering our kindness, generosity and compassion even if it is difficult, inspires us to continue to draw close to God.
