Valvifera - Wikipedia
The Valvifera are marine isopod crustaceans. [1] Valviferans are distinguished, however, by the flat, valve-like uropods which hinge laterally and fold inward beneath the rear part of their bodies, covering the pleopods. [2] Some species are omnivorous, and serve as effective scavengers in the economy of the sea.
Abstract.—Four new species of valviferans are described: Arcturinoides angulata, Astacilla mccaini and Astacilla spinicutis (family Arcturidae), and Neoarcturus obesopleon (family Holidoteidae). Amesopous richardsonae (Arcturidae) is redescribed and reported from widely separate localities throughout the Indian Ocean, tropical Australia and Japan.

2023年1月1日 · Valvifera is often split into two different groups: the Idoteoids, with their pereonite 1 free from their heads, and the Arcturoids, with their pereonite 1 fused to their head. Recent studies have found that while the Arcturoids are monophyletic, the Idoteoids are a paraphyletic basal grade leading up to the Arcturoids.
