WWAMI (pr: WHAM-ee with a silent ‘h’) is the University of Washington School of Medicine’s innovative multi-state medical education program. WWAMI is an acronym for the states served by the UW School of Medicine’s M.D. and Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs: Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho.

WWAMI Regional Medical Education. In the early 1970s, the University of Washington took on a bold challenge to train and prepare physicians to care for patients and communities throughout the WAMI states, Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (Wyoming joined in 1996).

Our applicants must all either be verified residents of a WWAMI state or meet our Out-of-Region criteria. Applicants from each of the WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) states will be considered for admission into their state’s cohort.

The Pediatric WWAMI Program encompasses Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, "WWAMI". In the Pediatrics WWAMI program, there are 41 teaching sites, more than 300 volunteer clinical faculty and many more educators teaching in the WWAMI region.
