2007年7月8日 · Blacksmiths and farriers aprons are frequently split down the middle from the bottom of the apron to about the crotch of the wearer and are much longer, almost to the floor. Blacksmiths and farriers have to worry about extremely hot sparks flying off the steel and possibly landing in their boot tops: even with an apron it happens.

2020年10月29日 · Split leather can be many things. Some tanneries put a finish on it that makes it suitable for making stuff. I have some samples in front of me from J Wood Leathers Ltd and three of them are coloured splits with a smooth finish that look eminently suitable for making a variety of things and the prices are very good as well.

2024年1月18日 · Just finished a workshop apron for myself. Ths is primarily as body armour when woodworking, not for the relatively danger free pastime of leather working. The main material is 3-4mm thich bull hide with a nubuck, brushed finish. The trim and strapwork are bridle hide for contrast. The hardware is stainless steel.

2019年11月13日 · I made a bunch of doubled latigo reins, mostly split reins but a few single reins too. At the time a lot of harness reins were a bulk production deal and enough imports I didn't want to compete with. Most I sold direct and some through resellers. I got 7/8 sides and doubled them up. I kept them paired thoughout even though maybe not necessary.
