About Us - Sarvodaya
Today, the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement (officially known as “Lanka Jathika Sarvodaya Shramadana Sangamaya”) is Sri Lanka’s most broadly embedded community-based development organisation. Sarvodaya works with 25 District Centres and 5500 legally independent village societies attached to the District Centres across the country.
Our History - Sarvodaya
Sarvodaya started with Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne’s community development activities in a remote, impoverished village known as Kanatoluwa in 1958. The word Shramadana had a magical effect, and in effect the Shramadana activities gained traction far faster than expected.
