The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) program at SCI-Arc is a five-year professional degree, accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), focusing on both design excellence and intellectual breadth through a liberal arts-based education.

SCI-Arc offers students a unique experience as they pursue their undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate degrees. Our approximately 500 students and 80 faculty members—most of whom are practicing architects—work together to reexamine assumptions, create, explore, and test the limits of architecture.

SCI-Arc's faculty represents a wide range of contemporary approaches to architecture and related disciplines. Among its members are renowned theorists, critics, and historians and some of Los Angeles's leading architectural practitioners.

SCI-Arc was founded in 1972 by a group of faculty and students who wanted to approach the subject of architecture from a more experimental perspective than what was being offered by traditional institutions at the time. Nearly 50 years later, SCI-Arc remains one of the few independent architecture schools in the world.

SCI-Arc’s Undergraduate Thesis prize is endowed by Blythe Mayne and Pritzker Prize-winning architect and SCI-Arc founding faculty Thom Mayne to recognize an outstanding B.Arch thesis project that exemplifies the highest degree of design skill, technical expertise, and critical thinking.
