Rosa Louise McCauley Parks (February 4, 1913 – October 24, 2005) was an American activist in the civil rights movement. She is best known for her refusal to move from her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus, in defiance of Jim Crow laws, which sparked the Montgomery bus boycott. She is sometimes known as the "mother of the civil rights movement". [1]
