The CF-188 Hornet, commonly called the CF-18, is a multi-role fighter aircraft. It is used for air defence, air superiority, ground attack, tactical support, training, aerobatic demonstration, and aerospace testing and evaluation. The Hornet is a fast, light and manoeuvrable aircraft.

The CF-18 Hornet replaced the CF-104 Starfighters and the CF-101 Voodoos starting in 1982. Equipping five squadrons in Canada and three in West Germany at CFB Baden-Soellingen, the CF-18 was better suited to the modern battlefield with its superior manoeuvrability, good self protection equipment, modern communications, and excellent radar.

An RCAF CF-18 Hornet during the Bagotville Air Show Fighter entered service in 1982 when 98 single-seat CF-18As and 40 two-seat CF-18Bs were ordered. Seventeen have been lost since 1984. [ 8 ] Stationed at 3 Wing Bagotville, Quebec and 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta; 60 CF-18As and 25 CF-18Bs remain in active service.

For the 2025 air show season, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) will field a small number of non-aerobatic CF-18 Hornet tactical demonstrations operated and supported by highly skilled and trained CF-18 pilots and technicians from Squadrons in Cold Lake and Bagotville.
