2021年1月28日 · According to Seachem's description, Purigen is a macroporous synthetic polymer. The pores trap particles from the water causing discoloration over time. I assume the bleach helps in breaking down the trapped particles to allow for rinsing them out in order to recharge the Purigen pellets.

This I changed out every 90 days.After this basket was a refugium basket with chaeto lit from the back. Tank was doing good until I started to get bryopsis and hair type algae.

2015年1月30日 · I have about 200ml of Purigen for over an year and it has never changed colours. It is a 200l ULN tank, with a powerfull skimmer, vinegar dosing and GFO. For this setup the Purigen has never done anything IMO. Provided it is a ultra low nutrient system, it is expected Purigen wouldn't do much, anyway.

2023年4月21日 · Purigen is a polymer binder of organic Nitrogen. Haven't seen any demonstration of its effectiveness. Pristine is a bottled bacterial product with claims like many others. If a bacteria has food, then it can do all of those things to ammonia, nitrate, phosphate etc. But if it does not have a food, then it will not do any of those things.

2020年2月12日 · Chemipure functions pretty much exactly like purigen, but cannot be recharged. Activated Carbon removes similar things to Purigen, but has a very limited life, depending on the amount of contaminates. As I understand it, none of these products actually remove nitrate from the system, just prevent more from being made by organic wastes.

2016年4月18日 · IMO (as a polymer chemist), Purigen (an organic polymer) is more likely to work by binding organic matter before it breaks down to nitrate, than actually binding nitrate from seawater, where huge levels of chloride and sulfate will compete for binding sites.
