Pedro Martínez de Luna y Pérez de Gotor (25 November 1328 – 23 May 1423), known as el Papa Luna (lit. 'the Moon Pope') or Pope Luna, was an Aragonese nobleman who was christened antipope Benedict XIII during the Western Schism. Pedro Martínez de Luna was born at Illueca, Kingdom of Aragon (part of modern Spain), in 1328.

Benedict (XIII) (born c. 1328, Illueca, Kingdom of Aragon—died 1423, Peñíscola, in Valencia) was an antipope from 1394 to 1417. He reigned in Avignon, Provence, in opposition to the reigning popes in Rome, during the Western Schism (1378–1417), when the Roman Catholic Church was split by national rivalries claiming the papal throne.

Cardinal de Luna (still a deacon) was then unanimously elected pope on Sept. 28, 1394. On October 3 he was consecrated priest; on October 11 he was made a bishop and then took the name Benedict XIII. Benedict was heavily involved in political and conciliar battles from the outset.

He was designed Pope in Avignon in 1394 as Benedictus XIII during Western Schism. He is best known as Pope Luna. Benedictus XIII was deposed in 1417. Then, he moved to a castle in Peñíscola (Castellón, Comunidad Valenciana) where died in an uncertain date (some sources say November 29 in 1422).
