In its most straightforward use, PogChamp is a Twitch emote that signifies hype eg "WR Pace PogChamp" for a speedrun stream, "Penta PogChamp" for a League/Dota 2 stream, "Perfect Pogchamp" for a fighting stream etc. It can also be used as a synonym for Kreygasm ("GabeN PogChamp," "Half-Life 3 PogChamp," etc).

The "PogChamp" emote is the face of a real person, Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez. Gutierrez made some comments supporting the recent unrest in the Capitol. (He also has a history of inflammatory comments, this just pushed it over the line) Twitch doesn't want to be associated with that sort of thing, so they yanked it.

2015年5月19日 · It was given the name "PogChamp" because of this Mad Catz FightStick promo. Like many other Twitch emotes, it is usually used as a form of expression. In most cases, "PogChamp" is used to express excitement or surprise.

2020年9月11日 · Pogchamp itself is older however, being the contraction of "Pogs Champion(ship)" which were tournaments of a game called -- you guessed it -- "Pogs". Pogs was a brand name of a trading game called Milk Caps played in the early-mid 90s.

2021年1月7日 · Gootecks is not my little PogChamp. More of a WeirdChamp. Also, Twitch is a private business, they can choose emotes and remove them as they see fit. Not saying what they did is right, but they are not at fault for doing that. Besides, everybody and their grandma now has BTTV and FFZ.

2021年1月7日 · On the other hand, I really don't think PogChamp was associated with Gootecks by the vast majority of users. He doesn't even look like the emote anymore and I think most people (myself included) didn't even know the face behind it until Twitch brought attention to it. A twitch emote wasn't expanding the reach of his opinions.
