2021年9月13日 · I pushed myself on them to try to get them to like me by holding them and petting them, but this only made things worse. Luna and Neville (the emus) ran away, hid in a corner, and would kick if I tried to pet them. After doing more research and asking for advice on an emu Facebook page, I finally decided to let them be.

2018年6月20日 · He has to raise his arms over his head and grunt...make himself the bigger emu. She'll back down and pout. After a little while curiosity will prevail and she will allow him to pet her and take treats from him. This is her first mating season and since I raised her I think I am her chosen mate. She doesn't know we are different.

2010年6月5日 · Yes you can raise them beside each other, as emu chicks do need company. I find that male emu are often more friendly as adults. It would be nice to have more than one, 2 males, 2 females,male & female etc... but if you have other large livestock, dogs etc.. they will have company in them.

2012年8月23日 · Later on the emu farmers here found out that emu oil was also useful,, so it (as well as the leather) became a byproduct of the meat industry. Even though some people do keep them as pets now.. they are still being used as a meat, oil and leather source... (and emu meat is quite delicious!).

Her name is Buffy and she was destined to be the main course in a Thanksgiving Day feast until the owner was persuaded to let it go to a good home! So, we traveled a couple of hours and crossed the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay to pick it up and bring it back.

2009年3月12日 · I buy commercially processed emu breeder or maintenance feed. I can usually find starter, grower, breeder, and maintenance ratite feed. My birds were given to me by a man who raised them commercially for feed, feathers, hides, and emu oil. While they are "tame", they were never raised around other livestock or birds, so they're kept penned.
