Pentane - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pentane is an organic compound with the chemical formula of C 5 H 12. It is an alkane with five carbon atoms. Usually, "pentane" represents all three isomers (n-pentane, isopentane and neopentane). But in the IUPAC, pentane only represents n-pentane. In the IUPAC, the other two isomers is 2-methyl butane and 2,2-dimethyl propane.

Pentane - Energy Education
Pentane is a volatile, colourless liquid with a characteristic gasoline-like odour. In addition to being a component of natural gas, pentane has numerous industrial uses. Primarily, pentane is used to create a blowing agent which is then used to create a foam known as polystyrene.

Pentane (n-pentane) is a hydrocarbon. Its hydroisomerization using a nanocrystalline beta (BEA) zeolite has been proposed. It has been reported as one of the products formed from the peroxidation of unsaturated fatty acid.
The Pentane Molecule -- Chemical and Physical Properties
Being an unfunctionalized hydrocarbon, pentane is a commodity chemical. It is mainly a fuel and a solvent, although it also could be used as a source of H 2 via steam reforming. As the most volatile hydrocarbon that is liquid at room temperature, pentane is often used in the laboratory as a solvent that can be conveniently evaporated.
