The PDP-12 was a computer produced by DEC for use in laboratory settings. It was a descendant of (and replacement for) the LINC-8; its CPU could operate in one of two modes: either as a PDP-8 (specifically a PDP-8/I), or as a LINC computer. In each mode, there is an instruction to switch to the other mode.
The PDP-12 is a single-processor computer system which executes instructions from either of two complementary order codes. The PDP-12 directly executes programs writ ten for pop-a or LlNC computer systems. The PDP-12 combines a totally new hardware organization with advanced system software to make optimal use of its hardware capabili ties.

The PDP-12 is a dual-processor 12-bit minicomputer designed for interactive, real-time laboratory use. It was introduced in 1969 and 725 were built before the line was discontinued in 1972. The basic machine came configured with dual LINCtape drives, a scope display, and IO ports for interfacing with external laboratory equipment.
The PDP-12, with its inherent ease of operation, is an ideal tool for use in patient monitoring and patient interviewing. In the patient monitoring situation, EKG, EEG, respiration, etc. can all be handled by the PDP-12 A/D converter and multiplexer. In patient …
