The PPD-34 (Pistolet-Pulemyot Degtyaryova) was sub-machine gun which was first issued in 1935. It was a robust design, but was never fully adopted by the military, as the Soviet high command saw them as a waste of ammunition, so few were made and those that were issued were mainly used by secret police.
