The Mysidacea is a group of shrimp -like crustaceans in the superorder Peracarida, comprising the two extant orders Mysida and Lophogastrida and the prehistoric Pygocephalomorpha.

Mysida is an order of small, shrimp -like crustaceans in the malacostracan superorder Peracarida. Their common name opossum shrimps stems from the presence of a brood pouch or "marsupium" in females. The fact that the larvae are reared in this pouch and are not free-swimming characterises the order.

The Mysidacea are generally considered belonging to the superorder Peracarida. They are shrimplike in appearance, the majority of species being between 5 mm and 25 mm in length, and due to the peracaridian oostegites forming a ventral female marsupium often referred to as "opossum shrimp".

2015年4月30日 · In 1904 the concept of Schizopoda was abandoned, and the Mysidacea (Mysida and Lophogastrida) along with Cumacea, Amphipoda, Isopoda, and Tanaidacea were placed in a new taxon, the Peracarida.

They are distributed from the coastal littoral zone to open ocean waters down to hadal depths. Species are also described from continental fresh water and several taxa are found in groundwater habitats and in marine and anchialine caves.
