2015年1月12日 · Because deer are smaller and breed more quickly than elk, you can fit more deer on an acre of habitat than you can elk, all things being equal. That means more harvest opportunity. Now there are relatively hard muley hunts and relatively "easy" elk hunts, but on the mean, there is no doubt that a deer hunt is easier than an elk hunt.

I'll drop an elk every time for a good mule deer buck, hunt harder and farther for mule deer bucks than I would an elk but I grew up with elk being around every day and not all that hard to get, kinda like whitetails in the bottoms. For the once in a life time though I'd bet an elk would really stick with a guy!!

2019年10月23日 · Is it reasonable to expect both mule deer and elk sharing the same space? This will be new territory for me, and the mule deer a new opportunity. Carrying a ~$500 tag around “just in case” isn’t a good use of my resources. Elk are the focus, but the new camp is in a better area than I’ve previously hunted as far as deer are concerned.

2018年2月14日 · For mule I could probably have a slightly mild load (at least, not 3400 FPS on 175 grain accubonds or something like that, maybe 3100 so at medium range the velocity is around 2800) and then on elk use the hornady 180 edlx or 195 berger.

2018年2月14日 · I've killed a lot of critters with the 200 grain Accubond out of my .300 RUM. I've never experienced the huge exits like the Berger tends to make. Killed elk, mule deer, antelope and bears. Oh, and a wolf. Ranges from 42 to 703 yards. It's a great bullet for hunting loaded in the RUM. mtmuley

2018年2月14日 · After harvesting many elk, some with a bow, I have to say that the exigencies of early light, evening dark, terrain, weather, wind, distance to vehicle, and human endurance, actually put a limit on practical range for elk shooting. Even if you can punch a target or ring a gong at 1200 yards, you might not want to shoot an elk at half that distance.

The 28 has slammed dunked 2 at ranges over 750 and a problem horse that was terrorizing the valley (at 814). the 300 RUM took an elk at 400+ in 30 mph gusty wind with 2 hits 3" apart and it was only animal that required 2 shots this year.
