Jul 28, 2014 · The products like "green board" are not just "heavier paper" but paper that is coated with a substance that totally prevents the kind of "wicking" that often leads to MAJOR problems with moisture and mold -- greenboard or "moisture resistent gypsum board" are both good products with good reasons to choose them.

Mar 27, 2025 · The other option would be the paperless or mold resistant drywall between the windows with wide trim which might cover most of the drywall. Then continue the drywall all the way up to the ceiling. (Hmm, if there's gonna be trim at the top of the walls, it's gonna be really interesting to cut the angles around the top of the dining area.)

Apr 1, 2025 · It's unlikely, IMO, that mold would be a problem for such a short-term leak. I suppose that you could always knock a hole in the basement ceiling and look to see if you see any mold. Otherwise, unless you think that $2,100 is insufficient to cover the repair, I don't see what you have to lose by accepting that.

Mar 25, 2025 · Hmm, that is a good point. If we get the mold resistant or "paperless" drywall and then use paint with mildewcide in it, we may have a chance of non-moldy drywall. That along with the fire resistance of it may mean we use drywall. At least in some portions of the house anyway. The fire station is less than a thousand feet away.

I'll have to see prices on flooring, although I suspect that would be way more expensive than the mold-resistant drywall. I think the tiles are put on a special type of drywall and have a special red coating put on them as well? I don't do much with tiles.
