Milorg var den militære motstandsorganisasjonen i Norge under andre verdenskrig (1940–1945). Gjennom vedtak i Forsvarsrådet 20. november 1941 ble Milorg anerkjent av London-regjeringen og lagt direkte under Hærens overkommando (fra februar 1942 Forsvarets overkommando).

Milorg oppsto fordi det fantes mennesker, oftest unge menn, som nektet å akseptere at det var nytteløst og uansvarlig å forberede militær motstand mot okkupanten. mot okkupasjonsmakten -kalt MILORG. Skytterlaga i bygdene her kom til å spille stor rolle i organiseringsar-beidet. Ledelsen der søkte faglig hjelp hos de militærer. Smedlærer Arne Steen var formann i skytterlaget på Tynset. Han hadde mye å gjøre med skytterlagsmedlem-mer i andre bygder også, og ble en sentral mann i mot-standsarbeidet.

Den militære og sivile motstanden under andre verdenskrig supplerte hverandre i kampen mot NS og tyskerne. Med livet som innsats utførte Milorg og ulike kommunistiske motstandsgrupper aksjoner mot okkupasjonsmakten.
