The R142 is the first mass-produced model class of the newest generation or new technology (NTT) A Division cars for the New York City Subway. It was built by Bombardier Transportation in La Pocatière, Quebec, Canada and Barre, Vermont, U.S. with final assembly performed at Plattsburgh, New York, from 1999 to 2003. [6]

In 1997, an order was placed for 1,080 new cars for the IRT ("A") division, to be known as contracts R-142 and R-142A. The contracts were let to Bombardier, to build the R-142 contract of 680 cars, and to Kawasaki Heavy Industries, to build the R-142A contract of 400 cars.

The R142A is the second order of new technology cars (NTTs) for the A Division of the New York City Subway. [8] These cars were built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Kobe , Hyōgo , Japan and Lincoln, Nebraska , U.S. with final assembly performed at Yonkers, New York .

Now, CP Rail delivers R142s from Plattsburgh to Fresh Pond Yard, interchange with CSX at Oak Point Yard is no longer done. Some cars moved to 207th St. Yard on 12/20/1999.

New Technology Train (NTT) [1][2][3] is the collective term for the modern passenger fleet of the New York City Subway that has entered service since the turn of the 21st century. This includes the current R142, R142A, R143, R160, R179, R188 and R211 models, along with the planned R262 and R268 models.

MTA Construction and Development Company (“MTA C&D”) is seeking proposed solutions for retrofitting existing MTA-owned R142 and R142A class rolling stock with on-board Communication Based Train Control (“CBTC”) equipment so that those trains can operate on future NYCT A-Division lines equipped with a wayside CBTC-based train control system.

The R142 and R142A are a type of subway car built by Bombardier Transportation and Kawasaki Rail Car, respectively, for the New York City Subway. They were built and delivered from 1999 to 2003, and were the first in a series of New Technology Trains for the MTA.

2018年3月21日 · A major reason for this is, effective December 2018, MTA has decided to seek out qualified vendors with knowledge on train upgrades to begin the research process for the upgrade of the entire fleet of R142 and R142A cars.

The R142 is the first new technology train for the system's IRT division and more than 1500 cars are scheduled to be produced. The train features a friendly, instantly recognizable face, which communicates the MTA's continuing effort of improving the system.
