The Roland MC-505 is a groovebox conceived in 1998 as a combination of a MIDI controller, a music sequencer, a drum machine, and a desktop synthesizer with many synthesis features: arpeggiator, oscillators, and voltage-controlled filter, control of attack, decay, sustain and release, different envelopes and 2 Lfo.

The MC-505 Groovebox builds upon the successful MC-303 as a self-contained, retro-styled dance music sequencer and sound module with powerful new sounds and realtime controls. New features include the revolutionary D-Beam light-sensing controller and a MEGAMix function for intuitive realtime pattern mixing.

The Roland MC-505 Groovebox is an all-in-one electronic music production tool. It features built-in synth and drum samples as well as a resonant filter, sequencer, onboard effects, and MIDI functionality.

The MC505 is the groovebox that M.I.A. used to make all hear beats on Galang and Kala. It's got a ton of great sounds, particularly bass and percussion, and a low-end that's earth-shaking. This particular unit is missing a line or two on the display, though every readout is still very legible. Lightly used, always in a smoke-free environment.

The MC-505 is also available in keyboard form as the Roland JX-305. It is an upgraded version of the MC-303 with more sounds, more memory, and greater capabilities overall.
