Liane Levetan was the first woman elected to the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, where she represented District 2 for 10 years. In 1993, she was the county's first female CEO, and served in that position for two terms from 1993-2000. She then served as a state senator and has remained engaged in public service.

Among the grand jury’s recommendations: the abolition of DeKalb’s unique CEO form of government. DeKalb adopted the CEO structure in 1986.
