Levyne or levynite is a zeolite mineral, i.e. a hydrated silicate mineral. There are two forms of levyne: Levyne crystallizes in the Trigonal - Hexagonal Scalenohedral class. It typically occurs as radiating clusters or fibrous masses that are transparent to translucent in colors ranging from white through reddish and yellowish white to gray.

Named by David Brewster in 1825 in honor of Serve-Dieu Abailard "Armand" Lévy [November 14, 1794 Paris, France — July 29, 1841 Pecq near Saint-Germain, France], French mineralogist and crystallographer, Paris University, France. Lévy used the nickname "Armand", partly as a personal preference and partly to avoid anti-semitism. Lévyne-Ca, Lévyne-Na.

Levyne is an uncommon zeolite, but all occurrences are in cavities of basalt. Associated minerals include erionite, chabazite, phillipsite, natrolite, analcime, thomsonite, and many others.

2018年7月15日 · The new levyne B topology, referred to levyne B′, is characterized by 37% T1B and 15% T2B that are new tetrahedral sites arising as a consequence of the T-O-T breaking process. In contrast to the T1B site, T2B is at general position, originating a system of T2B face sharing tetrahedra, mutually exclusive.

Of the two original spellings, levyne became the accepted one. The suffix was added in 1997 by the Subcommittee on Zeolites of the International Mineralogical Association to denote the dominant exchangeable cation and distinguish it from the newly named levyne-Na. The IMA added the diacritic in 2008, resulting in lévyne-Ca.
