Leo Katz is an American lawyer and the Frank Carano Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Leo Katz (December 30, 1887 – 1982) was an American painter, muralist, printmaker, and photographer. Katz was born on December 30, 1887, in Roznau, Moravia. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. [1] In 1920 he emigrated to New York. In 1934 he moved to Los Angeles. [1] .

Leo Katz’s work focuses on criminal law and legal theory more generally. By connecting criminal law, moral philosophy, and the theory of social choice, he tries to shed light on some of the most basic building block notions of the law — coercion, deception, consent, and the use and abuse of legal stratagems, among others.

With wit and intelligence, Leo Katz seeks to understand the basic rules and concepts underlying the moral, linguistic, and psychological puzzles that plague the criminal law.
