Under Legislative Act 353, children of policemen and firemen killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty in Louisiana receive an exemption from tuition, an exemption from on-campus room and board, and a book allowance. Students are required to enroll full-time to receive this benefit.

In order to use the scholarship for the summer semester, the student must complete the Summer Legislative Act 353 form which may be requested from the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. Summer semesters for which the scholarship is used count against the number of semesters of eligibility for this award.
