The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Jubilee Class is a class of steam locomotive designed for main line passenger work. 191 locomotives were built between 1934 and 1936. They were built concurrently with the similar looking LMS Stanier Class 5 4-6-0. They were nicknamed Red Staniers (due to their crimson liveries) and Jubs. [1] [2]

The 5XP “Jubilee” class locomotive was a further development of the “Patriot” class locomotive by William Stanier, going into production at the same time as the somewhat similar class 5P5F “Black Five” design.

Ex-LMS 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 5742 'Connaught' is seen arriving at platform one in Coventry with an up express service in July 1948, just a few months after nationalisation.

Eleven were later refitted with a sloping throatplate boiler (5567, 5590, 6607-08, 5610, 5616, 5621, 5622, 5639-40, 5657 and 5665-5742 were delivered with that design. The slope reduced the tube length from 14 ft 3 in to 13 ft 3 in.

Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5XP 'Jubilee Class' No 45742 'Connaught' is seen arriving at the up platform with one of the Birmingham to London two-hour expresses. The locomotive is heading the nine-coach train, which includes a dining car on 5th October 1957.
