The Kuhlohorn (also Kuhlo-Flügelhorn) is a small flugelhorn in B ♭. This is a specially designed brass wind-instrument played using a deep bowled mouth piece. Chief characteristics are its oval design and integrated, usually conical tubing.

Vintage August Clemens Glier Bb Kuhlohorn. Made in Markneukirchen, Germany. Very rare instrument. Lots of wear, solder repairs, some dents, etc. Bare brass finish, no lacquer. This Kuhlohorn does play. I tested it with a trumpet mouthpiece and was able to play through its range. Rotary valves make some noise but operate well.

2020年3月9日 · For those not familiar with the term kuhlohorn, a brief description: a kuhlohorn is an oval flugelhorn with a conical tuning slide. Its pitch is identical with a normal flugelhorn, and its tone, often described as very warm, dark, soft and round, is similar, too.

Mit unserem Kuhlohorn beschreiten wir altes wie neues Territorium. Das Instrument an sich ist alten Vorlagen aus der Zeit Johannes Kuhlos nachempfunden, hat aber einige moderne Neuerungen, wie einen serienmäßigen Trigger und die Option auf ein viertes Ventil und einen Flipper für besseres Handling.

Beim Kuhlohorn handelt es sich um eine besonders weitmensurierte Bauweise des Flügelhorns, die nach ihrem Erfinder Johannes Kuhlo, dem Begründer der Posaunenchorbewegung, benannt ist. Wie das heute weiter verbreitete Flügelhorn wird es mit einem tiefen Kesselmundstück geblasen und ist in B gestimmt.
