Kollel (literally “collective” or “group”) most commonly refers to an institute of (advanced) Torah scholarship, particularly one whose students are married men. Historically, it was used to refer to organizations that would raise funds in the Diaspora to support Jews in the Holy Land, many of whom were impoverished Torah scholars.

Kollel Derech Chaim was founded in 2021 under the leadership of Rav Yossi Stilerman. The Kollel’s mission is to take serious and growth-oriented yungeleit and give them the tools necessary to acquire a deep understanding in critical areas of halacha and hashkafa.

Our kollel offers a daily riveting shiur and rigorous curriculum, as well as monthly comprehensive tests, motivating a thorough review, with an option for semichah available. Our members forge close bonds with the roshei kollel, Rabbi Shraga Kallus and Rabbi Yitzchok Boehm, and feel comfortable turning to them even after they leave the kollel.

The West Side Kollel is unique in New York Under the stewardship of the Rosh HaKollel, Rav Don Blumberg, the Kollel serves as a center for Torah Leshma and as a vehicle for outreach. Jews with little background can begin to explore their Judaism while the advanced learner can expand his knowledge through Shiurim and chavrusah study.

Kollel Hashechunah started as a small night kollel of three avreichim with a mission to infuse the community with the warmth and depth of Torah that many could just reminisce about from their Yeshivah days. It has now grown b'ezer Hashem to become a thriving "שכונה".
