Kbal Spean (Khmer: ក្បាលស្ពាន, Kbal Spéan [kɓaːl spiən]; lit. 'Bridge Head') is an Angkorian-era archaeological site on the southwest slopes of the Kulen Hills to the northeast of Angkor in Banteay Srei District, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia.

A spectacularly carved riverbed, Kbal Spean is set deep in the jungle to the northeast of Angkor. More commonly referred to in English as the ‘River of a Thousand Lingas’, the name actually means ‘bridgehead’, a reference to the natural rock bridge here.

Kbal Spean lies 50 kilometers northeast of Siem Reap pro-vincial town or about 18 kilometers from Banteay Srei on a dirt road.

Kbal Spean is not as breathtaking as other ancient Khmer heritage sites, but is evocative and charming. It can not at all be called a landmark, but it is one of those attractions that are unique to Cambodia, a place of magic beyond imagination.

A jungle trail leads up to Kbal Spean, an elaborate network of stone carvings that runs along and inside a river. Kbal Spean’s Hindu carvings date primarily to the eleventh century. Like many Khmer sites, Shaiva and Vaishnava imagery is layered side by side.
