HM-12 SQUADRON HISTORY . Formed from Helicopter Combat Support Squadron SIX (HC-6) Detachment 53, Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron TWELVE (HM-12) was established aboard Naval Air Station Norfolk, Virginia on 1 April 1971.

The HELMINERON TWELVE (HM-12) squadron emblem features a steely eyed, fierce Sea Dragon set upon a deep blue luminous backdrop. In addition to the seas; the hues of blue represent excellence, courage, and commitment demonstrated by all men and women in the Airborne Mine Countermeasures (AMCM) community to ensure freedom of the seas.

Sep 9, 2021 · NORFOLK, Va. -- Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron (HM) 12 conducted aerial firefighting training on the use of the Bambi Bucket, Sept. 8-9. The Bambi Buckets are large orange buckets designed for aerial firefighting and are capable of holding approximately 1,300 gallons of water.

Most recently, Spencer served as the training officer at HM-12 prior to assuming duties as executive officer in September 2023.

As a fleet replacement squadron, HM-12 trains pilots and aircrewmen to fly the MH-53E in preparation for a variety of worldwide missions, including airborne mine countermeasures, fleet logistics support, heavy lift, and humanitarian assistance/disaster relief.
