Heaven for the Christian will be a place of glorious life that will never end. Joy inexpressible, limitless peace, pure love, beauty beyond description—that’s what Heaven is. Greatest of all will be the presence of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, with whom we will enjoy fellowship forever.

One reason Heaven is glorious is because it is absolutely perfect. In this present world we are surrounded by sin and decay and death—but it won’t be true in Heaven. This world also is racked by violence and wars and natural disasters —but again, it won’t be true in Heaven.

Only one thing will keep us out of Heaven, and that is our sin. One reason is because sin is rebellion against God–and there can be no room in heaven for a rebellious attitude. But the deeper reason is because God is absolutely pure and holy, and even one sin–just one–would be enough to banish us from His presence.

In other words, heaven is even more “real” than the earth and the stars. The Bible says, “The heavens (that is, the planets and stars) will disappear with a roar” (2 Peter 3:10). The most important thing I want you to know about heaven is that we will be with God.

No, this isn’t just an idea someone dreamed up to bring us comfort. When a believer dies, the Bible says that God’s angels will surround them, and protect them on their journey to Heaven. For example, in one of His parables, Jesus told about a poor but faithful beggar who, when he died, was carried by the angels into Heaven (see Luke 16:22).

The Bible says, “Just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven” (1 Corinthians 15:49).
