harmotome, hydrated barium aluminosilicate mineral, (Ba,Na,K) 1–2 (Si,Al) 8 O 16 ∙ 6H 2 O, in the zeolite family. Harmotome is isostructural with the mineral phillipsite; that is, the three-dimensional structure of the aluminosilicate framework is the same in the two substances.
Harmotome (Ba;K)1¡2(Si;Al)8O16² 6H2O °c 2001 Mineral Data Publishing, version 1.2 Crystal Data: Monoclinic. Point Group: 2=m: Crystals elongated k [001] or tabular k f010g; typically striated on f010g k [001]. Commonly as interpenetrant twins, to 4 cm, alone, in groups, or radiating aggregates.
IZA Commission on Natural Zeolites
Harmotome is a rare constituent of sediment and sedimentary rocks. Some of the early reported occurrences involve a mineral that under new definitions does not have sufficient barium. For example, the harmotome reported in the Big Sandy Formation of Arizona (Sheppard and Gude 1973) is now considered barian phillipsite-Na.

HARMOTOME (Hydrated Barium Aluminum Silicate)
Chemistry: BaAl 2 Si 6 O 16 - 6H 2 O, Hydrated barium aluminum silicate. Uses: Mineral specimen and chemical filter. Harmotome is one of the rarer zeolites, but is popular among zeolite and twin collectors. Its twins are considered classics among collectors who like twinned minerals.
