World Stress Map 2016 | The stress map shows the orientation of maximum horizontal stress S Hmax in the Earth's crust (Heidbach et al. 2016). Symbols denote the S Hmax orientation from various stress indicators. Colours denote the stress regime: normal faulting (NF), strike-slip (SS), thrust faulting (TF) and unknown (U).

The compilation of the GSHAP Global Seismic Hazard Map was based on the integration of all results from GSHAP regions and test areas in three greater GSHAP areas.
