
Government Accountability Office - Wikipedia
The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) is an independent, nonpartisan government agency within the legislative branch that provides auditing, evaluative, and investigative services for the United States Congress. [2] It is the supreme audit institution of the federal government of the United States.

Completing the design are a classical garland and an eagle grasping the American flag. The seal dates from shortly after the agency's creation in 1921. It was updated in 2004, when the agency changed names from General Accounting Office to Government Accountability Office.
