Welcome to the GRIN2B Foundation! Our goal is to offer support to the growing community of children diagnosed with alterations in their GRIN2B gene.

What is the function of the GRIN2B Gene? In its normal state, GRIN2B is one component of a receptor that relays signals in the central nervous system (e.g. from cell-to-cell in the brain). These receptors are called NMDA receptors. These receptors can be turned on/off.

What is GRIN2B? GRIN2B is not the name of a disease or disorder, but is the name of a gene located on the 12th chromosome. Its function is to encode a protein that forms a receptor responsible for sending chemical messages to the brain.

There is currently no cure for a GRIN2B diagnosis, but therapy, nutritional support and medications can help manage symptoms, prevent complications and improve quality of life. Not every child with a GRIN2B diagnosis will need/benefit from …

Welcome to our GRIN2B Community! This guide was created for you by a group of fellow parents. When many of our children were diagnosed with GRIN2B-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder, almost no comprehensive information existed.

Because of the many different ways the GRIN2B gene can be altered, there is a wide spectrum in the ways our children are affected. There has been recent discussion in the GRIN2B community about the use of the drug, Memantine.

We celebrate GRIN2B Awareness Week during 3/12 – 3/18. We chose the 12th to start off our week because GRIN2B is located on the 12th chromosome. Our Awareness Week is part of GRI Awareness month during March, which celebrates all the GRIN, GRIA, GRIK and GRID disorders.

That being said, GRIN2B is not really the type of disorder that is going to get donations from random, rich strangers. Our biggest donors are either families themselves or friends and relatives of GRIN2B patients.
