The HK21 is a German 7.62 mm general-purpose machine gun, developed in 1961 by small arms manufacturer Heckler & Koch and based on the G3 battle rifle. The weapon is in use with the armed forces of several Asian, African and Latin American countries.

The HK 21 was officially classified as a "General Purpose Machine Gun" (GPMG) - although it was also considered a "Light Machine Gun" (LMG) - which later became a family of supporting weapons. The series was based on the very successful HK G3 battle rifle/assault rifle, which was later widely used around the world.

The HK21 is an air-cooled, delayed blowback recoil-operated, select-fired, family of general purpose machine gun based on the previously made G3. The gun can be configured to be belt-fed or use G3 magazines via an adapter, models chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO and 7.62×39mm, uses M16 and AK-style G3 magazines respectly. [1]

It is capable of semi-automatic (single shots) as well as fully-automatic fire. Its most distinctive characteristics are its finishes, permanently mounted scope, and the lack of iron sights. Great recoil management for a 45 ACP. They could improve the sights. I was fortunate to shoot the Glock 21 at the Range Day for SHOT Show this year.
