Flunixin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), analgesic, and antipyretic used in horses, cattle and pigs. It is often formulated as the meglumine salt. In the United States, it is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and may only be lawfully distributed by order of a licensed veterinarian.

Flunixin is a cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor with IC50 values of 0.55 and 3.24 μM for COX-1 and COX-2, respectively. Flunixin shows anti-inflammatory effects [1] [2]. flunixin meglumine (10-1000 μM, 2 h) inhibits lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced activity of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in RAW 264.7 murine macrophages [2].

It is used to control pyrexia associated with bovine respiratory disease as well as endotoxemia and acute bovine mastitis. It also alleviates musculoskeletal inflammation and pain in horses, including visceral pain associated with colic. Target Species: Beef cattle, Dairy cattle and Horses.
