We are located on the Elk River at river marker 110, 23 miles downstream from Tims Ford Dam and 21 miles upstream from Fayetteeville TN. We have just about any length of trip that you desire, ranging from 2 1/2 miles to 44 miles.

Unlike most tailwaters in Tennessee, wading is the best method of fishing the Elk River. You can float the river too. If you do, you would be better off with a canoe/kayak or small personal pontoon type boat. Be very cautious about the discharges. When water is being released the stream is dangerous to be wading or in a small boat or canoe/kayak.

My husband and I had a great time floating the Elk river in a canoe with Elk River Adventures. Lorne and Connie are the nicest people and were super accommodating when we wanted to change the date of our reservation. It was a 12 mile float and Lorne gave great, easy to remember directions to help us navigate the river.

Our party uses Elk River Canoe Rental in Kelso, TN. Only one of us had their own open kayak. The rest of us used the rental facility's equipment which was actually pretty decent. All of us used kayaks of varying sizes. Call early to reserve the long yellow one.
