The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is an American single-engine, supersonic interceptor which was extensively deployed as a fighter-bomber during the Cold War.

The F-104 Starfighter sprang from conversations between Lockheed's chief designer, Kelly Johnson, and fighter pilots who'd fought in Korea. They wanted a small, fast, "no frills" fighter. Johnson and his team produced a truly revolutionary aircraft.

Specialized interceptor version of the F-104G for the Japanese ASDF, built under license by Mitsubishi for the air-superiority fighter role, armed with cannon and four Sidewinders; no strike capability. Some were converted to UF-104J radio-controlled target drones and destroyed.

F-104G. The F-104G Super Starfighter was a strengtened version of the F-104C with new avionics and all-weather capabilities. It also got a new more reliable J79-GE11A engine and a longer tailsection as known from the F-104B and D two-seaters. Since the aircraft was heavier then the C it got also a stronger undercarriage with bigger wheels.

The F-104G was the most-produced variant of the Starfighter. It is a multi-role fighter-bomber with a total of 1,127 units produced. The single-seat fighter-bomber has an exterior length of 16.66 meters, an exterior height of 2.4 meters, and a fuselage diameter of 1 meter.
