The Book of Enos (/ ˈ iː n ə s /) is the fourth book in the Book of Mormon and is a portion of the small plates of Nephi. [1] According to the text it was written by Enos , a Nephite prophet. Most scholars believe it to be a 19th century work by Joseph Smith .

In the Book of Genesis, Enos is the first son of Seth who figures in the Generations of Adam, and consequently referred to within the genealogies of Chronicles, and the genealogy of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. Between the records of Jacob and Enos, more than 120 years is covered, which leads some to question Enos' timeline.

The book of Enos introduces a pattern that shows how individuals can receive the blessings of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and share those blessings with others. First, Enos was taught the gospel of Jesus Christ (see Enos 1:1, 3). Next, he recognized his need for the Savior and prayed for forgiveness (see Enos 1:2–4).

Speaking to Jew or Hindu, Moslem or Buddhist, Catholic, Baptist, or Latter-day Saint, Enos witnesses that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, the Redeemer of all humanity. The Lord’s declaration to Enos that “thy faith [in Christ] hath made thee whole” (Enos 1:8) sums up, supports, and testifies of the New Testament record and its doctrine.
