Its engine is a naturally aspirated petrol, 0.7 litre, two stroke 3 cylinder. In this application it develops 34 bhp (34.5 PS/25.4 kW) of power at 4300 rpm, and maximum torque of 64 N·m (47 lb·ft/6.5 kgm) at 2500 rpm.

Always with a 4-speed manual transmission, the Junior was a success in the European small car market. Its improved variant introduced in 1961, the Junior De Luxe, had more luggage space and a wider cabin.
