The trainsets of Class VT 11.5 (often simply called TEE) were diesel multiple units built by Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) in 1957 and used for Trans Europ Express (TEE) services. Perceived as flagships of the DB rolling stock, they carried first-class seating only.

In the eighties these first class TEE/InterCity coaches made 1/30 part of all passenger coaches of the DB. After more than 30 years, these coaches are still modern and elegant. Above are all Rheingold/TEE coaches listed which were made during epoch III.

From 1965 until the train's discontinuation in 1987, the Rheingold was a first-class-only Trans Europ Express (TEE) train.

The DB built in the fifties for the international TEE (Trans Europ Express) express train network new diesel trainsets. Because there was very little time for construction there were no revolutionary developments used in the trainsets.
